Westfield White endured record-breaking, 108-degree heat at Newark Bears Stadium on Friday. Despite a 7-4 lead in the fourth inning against Rebel Nation Baseball, Westfield White was ultimately defeated in their first game of the State Cup tournament.
After watching RNB’s lead climb to 4-0 at the top of the fourth, Westfield White took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Walks, singles by Varano and DiFilippo, and a sacrifice by Anderson combined to push Westfield to an impressive 7-4 lead by the end of the inning.
Westfield’s lead narrowed to 7-6 in the 6th inning. In the seventh inning scorcher, Westfield’s victory was snatched away, with RNB managing to bring the score to a final 9-8.
